When it comes to SUV tyre sizes there are almost as many as there are SUV models and barely more than two SUVs share the same tyre size, according to the latest survey by Choice.
Since there are so many different sizes the choice of 4wd tyres might be extremely limited, with hardly a tyre available for under AUD $200 per tyre.
Given that, making the right choice when purchasing new tyres is important, especially when it comes to the question of on versus off-road tyres.
According to the Choice survey results 95 per cent of SUV owners decided to purchase tyres designed for road and light off-road use, whilst the remaining 5 per cent decided to buy tyres designed for serious off-road use.
On average 90 per cent of SUV driving occurs on sealed roads, eight per cent on unsealed roads and only two per cent on 4WD tracks.
