Continental to Supply Tyres for Volkswagen’s new Electric Car: the ID.3

• Volkswagen’s new electric car to be factory-fitted with Continental tyres
• Summer and winter tyres adapted to the electric vehicle’s specific requirements
• Approval also granted for ContiSeal technology for automatic puncture sealing

Continental tyres are to be factory-fitted to the recently presented Volkswagen ID.3. Volkswagen has granted approvals for summer and winter tyres for 18 and 19 inch rims. The EcoContact 6 summer tyre and the WinterContact TS 850 P winter specialist tyre have both been adapted to suit the specific requirements of the ID.3. As an electric vehicle, the ID.3 will run on tyres with low rolling resistance that save energy, in order to deliver the maximum possible range between charges.

The tyres feature low tyre and road noise for better passenger comfort and come with an aerodynamic sidewall design that helps minimise the vehicle’s aerodynamic drag. Both the summer and winter tyres also feature ContiSeal technology. ContiSeal automatically and reliably closes punctures with a diameter of up to five millimetres in the tyre tread, thereby eliminating approximately 90 percent of all punctures. 

The Continental Corporation also supplies the on-board server that provides connectivity for Volkswagen’s electric ID. models.
