Gran Turismo Championship Extends Pirelli's Worldwide Reach

Australia's newest motor racing series, the Pirelli Gran Turisimo Championship, joins a worldwide stable of prestigious international automotive competitions raced exclusively on Pirelli Tyres.

The new Pirelli Gran Turisimo Championship is a nine round series raced across the Australian eastern seaboard for exotic sports and GT cars such as the likes of Maserati, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Lotus and others.

All competitors in the Gran Turisimo Championship race exclusively on Pirelli racing tyres.

Illustrating perfectly Pirelli's centenary of commitment to global motorsport, the Gran Turisimo Championship joins a roster of international series which includes the World Rally Championship.

Pirelli is the official supplier to the FIA World Rally Championship and the P-WRC (for production derived cars) for the three-year period 2008-2010.

Within the sphere of rallying Pirelli also offers its products to the teams contesting the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (dominated by Pirelli over the last two years), the FIA Middle East Rally Championship, the European Rally Championship and a host of other national and international championships.

Furthermore, the Pirelli Scorpion and the PS22 are also rally-raid protagonists fitted to 4x4 vehicles and trucks from major manufacturers such as Isuzu, Iveco, Mercedes-Benz and Tatra.

Circuit racing also features strongly in Pirelli's sporting program.

The Italian firm has won important recognition having been chosen as exclusive tyre supplier through to 2010 for the American Grand-Am Rolex series, the most successful championship for prototypes and GT cars in the world.

Pirelli is also competing in the international FIA-GT championship it won in 2005 (Team and Constructors' GT1 with Maserati) and 2006 (various titles in GT2 and GT1 with Ferrari and Maserati), is supplying tyres to the new Eurocopa Seat Leon and major championships and trophy series such as the Ferrari Challenge Italia-Europa-USA, the French GT FFSA championship, the Italian GT championship, the Asia Supercar Challenge and the Langstreckerennen- Pokal in Germany.

"As can be seen, Pirelli's commitment to motorsport is as broad as it is varied and has a global scope," Pirelli Tyres Australia Managing Director Roberto Righi said.

"These ventures draw on Pirelli's great motorsport experience, its research and development activity, and the technologies that Pirelli uses to produce all its production and competition tyres."
