Newcomer Gets the Tyres Rolling at JAX Tyres Bendigo
Experience in the hospitality industry is proving to be the perfect background for the new manager of one of Bendigo's top tyre retailers.
Stephen Hogan has been appointed as manager of the JAX Tyres Tyre store in Bendigo, one of the 70-store chain that stretches from Cairns to Tasmania.
Originally born and bred in Bendigo, Stephen worked in the hotel and hospitality industry in Melbourne and Perth before changing careers.
"I loved it while I was doing it, but to be honest I got tired of working nights so I looked around for something else to do and started as a tyre fitter with Tyre Power in WA. Stephen Hogan, manager JAX Tyres Bendigo
"We moved back to Victoria at the end of last year when one of my daughters started at Melbourne University - basically it was time to come home.
"My father saw this job advertised and suggested I try for it and here I am."
Stephen says his hospitality background is proving to be valuable training for customer service in the tyre business.
"In the hospitality industry you have to put in a lot of work to look after your customers, so I probably go a bit further than some in this business. You need to know how to talk to people to understand what they need.
"I think people come to us because they know we will take care of them. We're keen to grow this business and that will happen because we take care of our customers and provide them with good products at a good price."
While Stephen has just joined the team at JAX Tyres in Bendigo, the store itself has now been open for 12 months.
"Through JAX Tyres, we have access to the worlds' best brands of wheels and tyres and Group buying power means that our customers get the very best deals, no matter what their budget.
"We also encourage our customers to join the Gold Club Tyre Maintenance Plan because it gives them access to a wide range of benefits such as special servicing deals, discounts and free wheel alignments. Used properly, the plan not only means they can have confidence in the safety of their tyres, but they can save hundreds of dollars as well."
Stephen is the first to admit he is still learning the tyre business, but he loves it. He also loves being back in Bendigo, believing that he and wife Diana have made the right choice.
The couple owns a small property just outside the city and are busy with renovations. When those are under control, Stephen is keen to get back into his two passions - training horses and restoring cars
"We have a big shed that's just crying out for a project, so I am looking around for a car to restore. I'm also keen to get back to working with horses - perhaps I can even sell tyres to their owners and trainers!"
JAX Tyres stocks the world's leading tyre brands including BFGoodrich, Bridgestone, Dunlop, Falken, Goodyear, Michelin, and Pirelli. It also carries a wide range of top-line alloy and steel wheels, as well as providing a variety of other mechanical services such as brakes and suspension.
