Fast Forecaster To Open New Fyshwick Tyre Store

Canberra's newest tyre and automotive workshop will be flagged off the starting line this weekend by none other than Australia's fastest forecaster.

Seven Network weather presenter and part-time V8 Supercar racer, Grant Denyer, will be on hand when JAX Tyres Fyshwick, officially opens its doors for business.

Denyer's Dick Johnson Racing Falcon is sponsored by the entire JAX Tyres Tyre group - and the Fyshwick store is the latest outlet of what is now a 72-store chain along the east coast. There will be a total of six tyre stores around the Canberra area.

The new store (38 Gladstone Street) is probably more familiar to passers-by as a former Strathfield Car Radio outlet, but its distinctive new colours and signage point to it being set to make a very different noise.

It is equipped with the very latest in tyre and wheel fitting machinery, including the most high-tech equipment from Italy, and has the capability to fit up to 23-inch wheels.

The new store, owned by Craig White and Tony Megalli, comes from a decision to merge their two previous Quick Fit outlets (in Queanbeyan and Belconnen) under the all-new JAX Tyres banner, which was created last year with the merger of two of the biggest names in Australian tyre retailing.

Craig White and store manager Andrew Bryant have worked together in the tyre industry for many years and the long-term friendship has led to Andrew being selected as the manager of the state-of-the-art new store.

"Craig and I first met and worked together about 15 years ago," says Andrew.

"At one point Craig was living in Queensland but when he came back, he opened a Quick Fit store and asked me to manage it. Then there was another one - and now this. I think the fact that both of us are locals and work well together and that people know us is good for the future of the business.

"The JAX Tyres Tyres connection is good for the customers because the buying power of such a big group allows us to pass on the value to them, as well as the benefits of a mutual commitment to top-quality training and equipment."

Andrew says he and key staff such as Warren Smith and Mike Friedrich share a long-term passion for their work and doing the right thing by their customers.

All have learned their skills and the tyre business from the ground up in Canberra, and they are well aware that it is highly competitive.

"If people are thinking about buying tyres or having some mechanical work done, they should come and see us," says Andrew.

"We know the area and the conditions, we have a very highly experienced team and we can offer great value and great service - plus we're a good bunch of people!"

The JAX Tyres chain was created last year when JAX Tyres and Quickfit Tyres joined forces. There are stores in major centres along the east coast of Australia, from north Queensland through to Tasmania.

JAX Tyres stocks the world's leading tyre brands including Bridgestone, Continental, Dunlop, Goodyear, Michelin, and Pirelli. It also carries a wide range of top-line alloy and steel wheels, as well as providing a variety of other mechanical services such as brakes and suspension.

April 2006

As part of the opening celebrations at Fyshwick, any customer who buys two tyres or more is automatically entered in a draw with the chance to win a weekend for two at Wakefield Park and a hot lap with Grant Denyer in the JAX Tyres-sponsored Dick Johnson Falcon. - Entries close 14th May, 2006
