Michelin Power One Range: Moto GP technology now available on open market

More than 180 tyre combinations are now available through the Michelin Power One range which offers the best of tailored MotoGP performance to riders.

When developing the Michelin Power One lineup, the stopwatch was the only judge of performance. For each phase of circuit riding, Michelin developed unique technologies that have immediately positioned the Michelin Power One as the benchmark in hypersport tyres for grip, traction, handling and stability.

The Michelin Power One range uses 9 different rubber compounds. A wealth of innovations have been deployed with the goal of improving wet and dry grip and ensuring smooth handling and consistent performance lap after lap, while also enabling the rubber to heat faster.

The Michelin Power One grooved range features:

* 20 models available in eight sizes

* nine different rubber compounds approved for road riding

* optimal performance whether used for racing or on track days.

* maximum grip, nearly on a par with a slick tyre, even at lean angles of 40° to 60

* heats very fast, meaning riders can get their knee down, even in the first curve

* high-responsiveness, enabling the rider to lean into the curve with a minimum of effort

* three different front-tyre architectures, allowing riders to choose between stiffness (for a more precise trajectory) and flexibility

* grip and endurance

* the best balance between grip and abrasion resistance

MICHELIN Power One: Open market tyres developed using cutting edge racing technology

The development of the Michelin Power One range included a three-year torture test carried out by the Michelin R&D department, and an annual budget of nearly €600 million ($1 billion AUD).

More than 35,000 laps were ridden on over 30 circuits to fine-tune the features of each of the tyres in this new hypersport motorcycle tyre lineup. Developed to replace the Michelin Power Race, the tyre was tested in the most demanding conditions, on highly abrasive dry surfaces and in the rain, and in temperatures ranging from 3° to 54°C. In all, 116 test sessions were conducted by more than 130 riders on street bikes and prototypes delivering more than 200 hp, in the most extreme conditions of use, including Australian tracks and by Australian riders.

In developing the new models, Michelin took into account the different riding styles that it has observed during its long-time involvement at the highest levels of motorcycle racing.
