Grand finish at the Dunlop Grand Finale
After 14 rounds, 37 races and 10,002 Dunlop control tyres used, the final race of the V8 Supercar Championship Series was the closest finish in the history of the Championship with Garth Tander triumphant over a gallant Jamie Whincup.
At one stage in the final race, Tander was sandwiched between TeamVodafone rivals, Whincup and Lowndes, but survived the intense pressure to win his maiden Championship by two points. Whincup, who had to find one place in the final race, finished second behind Holden Racing Team's Todd Kelly.
Dunlop's Managing Director & CEO, Judith Swales, who presented the winner's trophy on the podium, said she needed to thank the volunteers and motorsport fans who made the Dunlop-sponsored race one of the best of the season.
"To be naming rights sponsor of the Dunlop Grand Finale was terrific for Dunlop. I was privileged to award the winner's trophy to Garth Tander on the podium and must acknowledge the tireless work of the volunteers throughout the race weekend.
It was also an emotional day for Dunlop-sponsored driver John Bowe who competed in his final V8 Supercar race. To commemorate his achievement Dunlop presented him with a gift to celebrate our proud association and his success on track.
"A big thank you must go out to Kevin Fitzsimons, Dunlop V8 Operations Manager, who ensured more than 10,000 tyres supplied to the Championship were delivered, fitted and serviced on all race vehicles throughout the season. It's been a massive job, but no rest for Kevin as tyre testing took place the day after in preparation for next season," explained Judith.
